Cub Scouts is a volunteer organization and is only as strong as our leaders. We need great leaders to help lead Dens and the Pack. There are many opportunities for parents to get involved!
Pack 1855 supports our leaders by providing many supplies for Den activities, awards for your Scouts and much more.
Becoming a leader involves many steps. We are here to help you!
Complete the training required by California AB 506. This includes all three steps on the website here: https://californiascouting.org/gec/ which includes on online class, uploading the certificate, and getting a LiveScan fingerprinting done. At this time Pack 1855 will reimburse up to $30 of the cost of getting the LiveScan done so keep your receipts!
This training is required for all leaders and parents that attend overnight camps. You can access it by logging in to https://my.scouting.org/ and select Menu -> My Training. You need to complete this before turning in your application.
Complete the online application at the link below. If you are not logged in already, you will log in with your my.scouting.org account and select the Adult application. As part of this process you will pay the BSA and Golden Empire Council (GEC) dues pro-rated for the rest of the calendar year. Again save your receipt as the Pack currently reimburses these costs for our volunteers.

You will be assigned as Den Leader for your Den in ScoutBook. This website allows us to track the advancement of your Den and helps us make sure they get all the awards they are supposed to. You will also be assigned as Den Leader on the Pack website and you can use the email alias denX@pack1855.org to email all the members of your Den.
This is highly encouraged for Den Leaders. BSA offers one day classroom training or online for you to complete at your convenience. This is available at https://my.scouting.org/. There are several sections, and you don't have to do it all at once. Work through it and when you are done you are eligible for a Trained Leader Strip for your uniform.
It is encouraged to have a Class A uniform, which is the official BSA button up shirt and a Class B Uniform, which is our Pack T-shirt. You can purchase the Class A shirt and patches (Council patch, US Flag patch, Scouting patch) at the River City Scout Shop. We have the Pack 1855 number patch available for purchase for $6. The rest of the uniform is optional.
We have a Committee Meeting once a month where we make plans for the upcoming months. Den Leaders are all considered part of the committee so if you can attend that would be great! Meetings are usually the first Sunday of the month.
Once you are registered and have an account in the Parent Login you can find the link there to submit your expenses for registering. Fill out the online form and upload the receipts as appropriate and our Treasurer will reimburse you for approved expenses. As of 8/1/2022 the pack will reimburse National BSA dues and up to $30 of the cost of LiveScan fingerprinting.
